What puts a sudden stop to a day’s storm chasing? A slipping SUV transmission, that’s what. It’s hard to explain the fun one has sitting along the highway waiting for the tow truck. Making matters worse, the disabled vehicle supplied the internet access for the rest of us, so when it was hauled off to the shop our internet connection went down effectively making us blind to developing weather conditions. Logistics required that part of our group go with the disabled SUV and pick-up another chase vehicle while the rest of us made our way back to Denver. Thankfully, I was in the latter group which meant getting into Denver earlier in the evening. While on route, we stopped at Kearney, Nebraska and encountered the Vortex 2 team. This was a great chance for us to get a close-up look at the Doppler on Wheels (DOW) trucks and other vehicles, and briefly chat with several members of the Vortex 2 team. We continued to Denver, arriving around 11:00 p.m. The other members of our party arrived about 3:30 a.m.
